Brittany Murphy had a tragically short life and died under somewhat controversial circumstances. She had been on several prescription and over-the-counter drugs when she collapsed in her bathroom in Los Angeles. Medics attempted to resuscitate her at the scene but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Though the primary cause of her death appeared to be pneumonia, there were many legal drugs in her system. Some family members claim mold in her house was a factor. Her widower Simon Monjack was found dead in the same home less than six months later.

In addition to her acting career, Murphy was also an accomplish singer. She was in a band during the early 90s and even released a hit single during this time. She covered two songs, Somebody to Love by Queen and Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire, on the soundtrack album to Happy Feet.
